Real Weddings: Marlana and Tyler's Ceremony

This touch of warm January weather has us reminiscing on a favorite from this past summer! Tyler and Marlana celebrated their big day at the cozy and quaint Blackberry Creek Retreat in Rogersville, MO alongside family and friends. Check out their sweet nuptials captured by D. Coleman Photography

What was the most sentimental part of your ceremony?
We both wrote a letter to other to read before the ceremony.  We each also wrote a letter to be read on our first anniversary and placed the letters in box during the ceremony.  We plan on writing letters to each other every anniversary and opening them the following year.

Why did you choose the ceremony space that you did?
We wanted an outdoor ceremony, and couldn’t imagine a more perfect place than the Blackberry Creek Retreat for our wedding.  The ceremony space is a large deck at the edge of the woods overlooking a creek.  The tree in the middle of the deck provided the perfect amount of shade for a summer wedding, and the lights strung through the tree created the perfect ambiance.

Did you choose to do any memorable events or traditions within your ceremony?

In place of a unity candle, we had a “unity tree.”  We closed on our first home together just a few days before our wedding and thought it would be really special to plant a tree symbolizing our growing relationship in the yard of our first home.

Alicia and Ty: Reception

The sweetest part of Alicia and Ty’s reception set-up was how tirelessly and diligently her dad worked on making sure every detail that Alicia had dreamed about, was made a reality. He even designed and constructed a dance floor! The entire week of the wedding there was family and friends out at the property putting up lights and hanging the draped tulle. There were people picking up rentals and organizing layout changes. It was truly the family affair that Alicia had imagined it would be.

Alicia had such wonderful taste when it came to her wedding design that no matter the weather, the details would have turned out beautifully. From the oyster linens, to the gold glittered place cards, nothing was left without attention, and it definitely paid off!

Some of my favorite details were the miniature peach champagne bottles, the various sizes of peachy-pink flower arrangements, and the pearly printed menu sacks that held a seasoned breadstick for each guest.
