Real Couple: Courtney and Matthew

Meet Courtney and Matthew!

They are getting hitched right here in Springfield on August 5th! They are such an endearing and sweet couple and I can't wait to be a part of their big day.

1.     A little about her... Courtney is a senior at Missouri State University. She is an Elementary Education major with an emphasis in Communication Sciences and Disorders. She grew up right down the road in Ozark, MO.
2.     A little about him... Matthew is a senior at College of the Ozarks. He is studying Business Administration and is from Ozark, MO as well!
3.     How did you meet? Matthew and I met our freshmen year in high school although we didn’t start dating until college. We were friends for almost 5 years before dating and our friendship was a solid foundation for our relationship.
4.     How long have you been together? A little over 2 years.
5.     What is the main thing that each of you are in charge of for the wedding, planning wise? Matthew and I have shared the responsibility of planning the wedding. All decisions have been made together and although I have done the majority of the “details,” Matthew has been extremely supportive! I truly feel so lucky to be marrying someone so involved in this process.
6.     If you had a “couple nickname” what would it be? Matthew and I are truly “old souls” at heart. We could spend an entire day taking walks, holding hands and talking. The simple things in life mean the most to us.
7.     What are your wedding colors? Plum and gray with accents of moss green.
8.     Are there any fun details about your wedding that you would like to share? Matthew is extremely skilled at woodworking and is making our arch (that we will stand under during the ceremony) from the ground up! We plan to decorate the arch for the wedding and then put it in our backyard as a constant reminder of our perfect wedding day.
9.     Groom, what are you most looking forward to on your wedding day? Seeing Courtney walk down the isle. She hasn’t given me ANY details about her dress but I know she will look beautiful in it.
10.  Bride, what are you most looking forward to on your wedding day? Like most little girls, I have always dreamed of my wedding day. I would envision the flowers, me in that beautiful, white dress and exuding that “bridal glow.” It wasn’t until I met Matthew that I was able to see the person I wanted to be standing at the end of the isle. That is what I am most excited for; to see Matthew standing at the end of that isle waiting for me and knowing we get to spend the rest of our lives together.

Real Couple: Alex and Madison

I am so excited to be working with such a fun couple. Major props to them for figuring out a long distance engagement and taking the worlds cutest engagement photos!

Meet Madison and Alex!

1.     A little bit about her...

Madison Pulley. Accountant at Pride Energy in Tulsa, OK.  From Springfield, MO

2.     A little bit about him...

Alex Telarik.  Law Student at Wake Forest. From Tampa, FL

3.     How did you meet?

We met the very first night of freshman orientation at the University of Tulsa.  We lived in the same freshman dorm.  On the first night, our floor had a get to know you ice-breaker type game where we had to tape character names to our foreheads and had to guess who our character was by only asking yes or no questions.  He was Katie Couric and I was Goofy!

4.     How long have you been together?

Four years

5.     What is the main thing that each of you are in charge of for the wedding, planning wise?

I (Madison) am doing most of the planning since Alex is in law school all the way in North Carolina, but he is in charge of the groomsmen.

6.     If you had a “couple nickname” what would it be?

If you would ask our friends they would probably say "The All American Couple"

7.     What are your wedding colors?

Blush pink and silver

8.     Are there any fun details about your wedding that you would like to share?

I want to bring an Italian feel to the reception since that is where I studied abroad and Alex came to visit while I was there.  It was our favorite place we have been together!

9.     Groom, what are you most looking forward to on your wedding day?

Standing at the altar and seeing the most beautiful girl walk down the isle.

10. Bride, what are you most looking forward to on your wedding day?

Marrying my best friend and to see the look on his face when I walk down the isle.

Stay tuned to see more from their June wedding!

The heart of the matter...

I know that you have probably heard it a HUNDRED times by now from your parents, grandparents, friends, co-workers, neighbors... etc. but it's true. It isn't all about the wedding - it's all about the marriage

Does that mean you should settle for styles you don't like or forfeit any fun in your ceremony for more praying and more reading - of course not. It does mean though, that you should take a serious look at your relationship in all of its beautiful, messy entirety and talk about some stuff. It doesn't matter if you have been together for 123439856 years. It doesn't matter if you think you know all the dark and dirty secrets the two of you have.

Engagement is one of the most incredible time periods in life that you will ever experience. You are literally growing from one single person, to a two for one special. Let that sink in. You will never be in this state of life again (God willing).

In my personal experience, I didn't really think I "needed" pre-marital counseling. That was for troubled and unsure couples, right? FALSE. I can honestly say that I gained so much more from the discussions brought up, the topics covered, and the simple things shared than I ever thought I would. I grew closer to my now husband than ever before in the 2 previous years that we had been dating.

It wasn't because we had kept secrets, or not had meaningful talks. It was because we were actively pursuing a purposeful and meaningful marriage and engagement together. I can't say enough about the positive effects of walking though pre-marital counseling together. The peace, closeness, excitement, and joy are things that I deeply desire for every bride and every couple.

Because of that I am PUMPED to announce that we will be offering a $200 discount for every couple that is going through Christian pre-marital counseling and meets our guidelines for it. YES! That is HALF OFF two of our most popular packages! This is for real!

If you are interested in getting a copy of our guidelines or viewing our packages and pricing, then email me directly at abby@abbymitchellevents.com. I would love to work something out with you.

Real Couple: Krista and Gordon

I am starting a new blog idea and I am really excited about it! I have created a little bit of a questionnaire for the couples I am working with so that I can get to know them better and so that you can too!

Meet Krista and Gordon! They are getting hitched on August 10th of 2013.

Krista and Gordon are both from Rogersville, Missouri where she works as a Gift Shop Assistant and he works as a Quality Manager.

How did you meet?
We met through mutual friends after Gordon had gotten out of the Marine Corps. We played pool together and hit it off instantaneously!

How long have you been together?
We've been together a little over 2 years.

What is the main thing that each of you are in charge of for the wedding, planning wise?
Gordon is in charge of all the groomsmen, groom, and gifts for the wedding party. Krista is in charge of the crafts and decorating ideas of the wedding planning. Everything else is done together.

If you had a “couple nickname” what would it be?
If we had a nickname, I guess it would be "The Magnets". We're always close to each other, and we're so connected we have a tendency to finish each others' sentences.

What are your wedding colors?
Light pink and navy blue

Are there any fun details about your wedding that you would like to share?
we're doing a soda shop theme, so everything is very 1950's inspired. The bridal party will be wearing a lot of pearls, and all the drinks will be served in vintage soda bottles!

Groom, what are you most looking forward to on your wedding day?
I'm looking forward to walking down the aisle with my love as her husband and seeing all of our families and friends.

Bride, what are you most looking forward to on your wedding day?
You mean other than getting married? Truthfully, seeing the whole thing come together. I'm doing a lot of the wedding stuff alone or with Gordon, so to have it all as a finished product will be fantastic!
